Sarcasm has no place in a review of last night's televised debate between the two men running for president. Watching the ossified Joe Biden freeze and fumble in front of the world while his misguided cheerleader wife stood by in the wings and allowed it to unfold brought me nearly to tears, at least when I wasn't laughing out loud.
But let's get something straight: Joe Biden wasn't just old and ugly and stupid, he was often lying through his perfect false teeth, or whatever they are. (Veneers? Implants?) Here are some of the lies the media has not focused on this morning after:
Biden shouted that during the Covid pandemic Trump told people "to inject bleach into their arms" to cure Covid. Here is what Trump really said, asking a doctor: "I see the disinfectant that knocks it out in a minute, one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside or almost a cleaning? As you see, it gets in the lungs, it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it would be interesting to check that."
Biden also said that Trump described the Nazis in Charlottesville as "very fine people." This is what Trump really said: “I’ve condemned neo-Nazis. I’ve condemned many different groups. But not all of those people were neo-Nazis, believe me,” he said. “You had many people in that group other than neo-Nazis and white nationalists. The press has treated them absolutely unfairly. You also had some very fine people on both sides.”
Biden said things are great here. They are not. He said Trump was the worst president in history. He was not. He said no American servicemen died on his watch. Thirteen did in the exiting-Afghanistan debacle, and three more in Jordan at the same time. I could go on but other people are saying it better all over the Internet. I just hope and pray that cooler heads prevail and cancel a second debate -- do we really need to see Biden pee in his pants on the world stage?
