At an auction in California this past weekend, some rich asshole paid a million bucks for the bat used by Babe Ruth in 1929 to hit his 500th home run. So now he's got this bat and he's gonna do what with it? Put it in a glass case and look at it? Bludgeon his wife to death while she sleeps? What, exactly, is so great about this particular piece of wood?Instead he might have bought mosquito nets at $7.50 each and saved 134,000 people from contracting malaria in Africa. Or paid for half a day's expenses at St. Jude's Hospital for Children, helping to cure countless kids with cancer. Or built a homeless shelter somewhere in San Francisco, or at least get 1,430 port-a-potties ($700 each) distributed in the city's homeless areas.
The list is endless. Someone should talk to this guy.
