I wonder if I had not been found after being kidnapped at the age of four, if the call for help would be an "Andrea Alert." Thankfully I
was found and my parents were spared from hearing that sad reminder every time a child went missing. But who knew that an "Amber alert" -- first used in 1996 in the case of Amber Hagerman
(see photo) -- just referred to a white child?
It didn't, of course. But today I saw an "Ebony Alert" online for a missing black girl. Really -- are we now making child abduction a race issue? And if she's not found, will that mean the police didn't try hard enough because she's black? And to be fair, shouldn't there be Brown Alerts (Latinos), Yellow Alerts (Asians) and Red Alerts (Native Americans)?
Just asking.
